CGA has been awarded the refurbishment of the North Block accommodation building at Brompton Barracks in Chatham. The client is Babcock, and the project is valued at £4.2m over a 36-week programme.

It is the latest in a run of work at the barracks. CGA has already delivered the Burgoyne & Napier Blocks and is carrying out roof repairs to the Officers' Mess, where the building stayed fully operational throughout. That record on a live military site played a part in this award.
The scope
North Block is a Grade II listed building. The works cover the internal refurbishment of the basement, ground, first and second floors of Houses C, D, 11 and 12, alongside façade repairs, structural works and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and heating (MEPH) works.
Inside, that means new floor, ceiling and wall finishes, new kitchen, kitchenette and laundry facilities, and new sanitary fixtures and fittings throughout.
Working on a listed building in an active barracks
Heritage fabric and a working military site bring the same demands CGA has met elsewhere at Brompton: careful sequencing, agreed access and security arrangements, and works that never get in the way of the site's day-to-day running.
The team
The CGA project team is Sam Bonfield, Mark Lofthouse, Adam Harper, Jake Medhurst and Dennis Whyatt.
Progress updates will follow as the works move forward. You can follow the project on our North Block project page.
