The project for the Wellcome Trust known as the Genome Campus is located on a 55 acre estate situated in the Grounds of the heritage listed, Hinxton Hall. The campus and Hinxton Hall are located in the south east of Cambridge in a rural and quiet countryside area and the nearby village of Hinxton.
The Cairns building where the works were located is situated to the South end of the campus adjacent to key areas of the campus. The catering and restaurant facilities are located on the ground floor and are busy throughout the day.
The existing Cairns building’s ground floor housed the catering/restaurant area and an auditorium facility. The auditorium was removed and stripped out to increase the number of tables and covers that the facilities provide, together with upgrading the kitchen and food preparation areas. Our main priority during the works was to keep the existing facility and restaurant open at all times with a minimum of disruption to both the kitchen management and the users on the campus.
